We protect your margins with smart innovations. Since day one, JOA has been building sustainability and efficiency into its platforms. Our long list of innovations means you can count on less scrap, elimination of raw material inputs, material savings, and quality improvements.
Low Roll Splice Initiation System
Minimize the amount of unused material left on each roll.
Significantly reduce material waste and maintain production speed while splicing new material rolls. Our Low Roll Splice Initiation System automatically initiates the splice at-speed when minimum material is remaining on the roll core. Optical technology analyzes every roll core individually since each one is unique, eliminating errors caused by core diameter variations between different raw materials for accurate and consistent splice set-up each time. Mechanical Bonding
An energy-efficient alternative for certain production processes.
Bonding is both an art and a science—finding the perfect balance of softness and strength while considering different energy and raw material costs associated with each bonding technology. Through our extensive experience, we understand the variables and work closely with you to meet specific requirements, based on a thorough evaluation of your product design, budget and machine speed. Mechanical bonding is often used to create a carrier or process bond to carry two materials together to the next application process. Different mechanical bonding methods are available depending on fiber types and aesthetic needs. View Bonding PDF
No Scrap Ear (NoSE)
Eliminate expensive ear material waste.
The majority of cutting processes create scrap when cutting ear material into unique shapes. To eliminate this problem, JOA designed the No Scrap Ear unit which cuts ear material in specific patterns that don’t produce waste, using 100% of the ear material every time. Flexible to meet your product requirements, the unit can cut multiple shapes, including symmetric trapezoids, asymmetric trapezoids, and radiused cuts. This unit is available for Baby and Adult Diaper machines.

Stretch Film Lamination
Eliminate waste and maintain quality.
To prevent the material from necking during stretch film lamination, JOA stretch rolls are close-coupled. This also enables narrower stretch films to be used than with typical setups where the rolls are further apart, resulting in material cost savings. In addition, our auto-recovery system rethreads the film—at-speed—if any holes or breaks are spotted, eliminating downtime and the product waste that occurs from machine shutdown and startup.
Ultrasonic Elastic Entrapment
Reduce material and energy costs with glue-free bonding.
The leader in ultrasonic systems, our elastic entrapment system creates quality bonds using a low energy consumption process that doesn’t require heat. The need for an adhesive raw material stream is eliminated, and by using material retraction, customers can use lighter entrapments to reduce costs. Compared to other systems, ultrasonic bonding also has lower maintenance requirements, reducing machine downtime. View PDF
Waste Minimization Technologies
Protection against human error.
Eliminate the risk of poor product quality and the expense from scrap with our patented Acquisition Distribution Layer (ADL) inverter. The unique invention scans the material, monitors deviations and confirms the correct side of the ADL is applied to the product. If the ADL inverter determines the wrong side is applied it automatically inverts the material—at machine speed—eliminating the possibility of running an entire roll incorrectly due to operator error.
Single-pad reject and self-correcting systems.
Our proprietary Vision Control System identifies and removes defective products, rejecting single products at machine speed. This eliminates rejecting multiple products unnecessarily, saving material and reducing scrap. The system also activates automatic corrections when a defect is detected, at machine speed—eliminating machine shutdowns and excessive defective products.
Waste Stream Management
Reduce material waste from machine start-up.
Start-up and shutdown reject quantities are always set to a predetermined amount to ensure quality. JOA machines start in phases to reduce that material waste. For example, front ears, acquisition layer, landing zone and waistband applications are delayed upon machine start-up so those materials are not wasted on products that will be rejected.
